In the framework of the Europe 2020 strategy, the European Commission recently updated its flagship initiative "An industrial policy for the globalisation era" in order to support European industry and its contribution to growth and economic recovery. In this context, the role of regions and cities creating a favourable environment and supporting a diversified, competitive and sustainable industrial base was highlighted.
On 10 April 2013, the Committee of the Regions (CoR) organised a conference about the Europe 2020 flagship initiative on industrial policy. It was be the third in a series of seven, which highlight the role of regions and cities in Europe's growth strategy. Addressing representatives of national, regional and local public administrations, business organisations at EU and national level, as well as experts from the European Commission, networks and associations, the event took stock of the implementation of the flagship initiative at regional level with a focus on two aspects:
