In 2015, the European Committee of the Regions' produced an open online course (or MOOC: Massive Open Online Course), an e-learning resource for officials of regional and local authorities, representatives of associations and others interested.
The course "Regions, EU institutions and policy-making" was available free of charge on Iversity.org e-learning platform until the end of 2015, and had 8.500 followers. The course covered topics from EU Cohesion Policy and Smart Specialisation to migration and access to EU programmes, and much more, and consisted of video lectures, factsheets, live discussions with experts organised at the Committee premises and web-streamed, and infographics and suggestions for further reading. The course was open to everyone interested in the EU and regional affairs, but was designed particularly for those who work on EU affairs at local level, for example in the context of EU programmes or projects. The course is now closed, but some of the learning aids remain available on this website. A summary of the course evaluation results and student feedback is available, as well (see documents).
A new, updated edition of this course will be produced in 2016, to be opened in October 2016 after the European Week of Regions and Cities. An informal call for interest for collaboration and for ideas for course content is now open and suggestions for these are welcome until 30 April 2016, to be sent to email@example.com.
