Europe in my Region - Citizens participation and living together in European Metropolitan areas today

The Citizens dialogue in the framework of the MEANING activity in Gdansk will bring a stronger European dimension to the Citizens dialogue and
allow local actors to exchange with their peers so as to better highlight the impact of the EU at the local level.

The event will focus on the topic of citizen participation. The objective of the event is to exchange with a wide range of local actors as well as representatives of other metropolitan areas (public authorities, civil society associations, ordinary citizens) on main obstacles and potential common solutions for effective citizen participation at both the metropolitan and European level.

Furthermore, the event will collect citizens’ and local actors’ views on 12 key topics: urban poverty; climate adaptation; sustainable land use and promoting pro-environmental solutions; energy transition; inclusion of migrants and refugees; air quality; digital transition; urban mobility; jobs and skills in the local economy; circular economy; housing policy; innovative and responsible public procurement.

The event will also be an understanding exercise of the notion of citizenship, its different implications and its evolution in territories where the population is diversifying. It will address the different ways to exercise citizenship from the metropolitan level to the European one, and build on the experiences of the metropolitan area of Gdansk.
