The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding which entered into force the 1st January 2015. In order to structure the implementation of this agreement, both institutions agreed to an annual planning of joint activities.
The areas of co-operation between OECD and CoR include matters related to: the quality of public investment; multilevel governance and decentralisation; measuring public policy intervention and public sector innovation; regional, urban and rural development; regional statistics; fiscal (public expenditure and revenue) matters and sub-national finance, as well as budget practices and procedures; and the exchange of good practices.
The key objective of the cooperation between the CoR and the OECD is to strengthen political dialogue between the OECD and the local and regional governments of the European Union in order to improve public policies that will foster economic and social well-being.
The joint CoR-OECD activities are managed by the COTER Secretariat in close cooperation with the secretariats of other commissions.
