Smart freight pricing for sensitive areas – evening networking event

WHEN: 23 January 2018, 18.30-21.00

WHERE: Representation of the European Region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino (Rue de Pascale 45-47, Brussels)

The Alpine regions are particularly sensitive to the negative impacts of road freight and passenger transport. To tackle the common challenges, the regions along the four main transit corridors have joined forces in the iMONITRAF! network to develop common solutions. The harmonisation and further development of road freight pricing systems is defined as major milestone in the iMONITRAF! strategy to support a common modal shift policy. To this end, political representatives of the Alpine regions signed a political resolution in 2016 on the so-called “Toll Plus” proposal. The ongoing revision of the Eurovignette Directive offers an opportunity to better target specific needs of the Alpine regions and to support a more stringent implementation.
Roundtable discussion with:
Richard Seeber, Director in the CR of the European Region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino (Moderation)
Peter Szatmari, Representative of DG Move – road transport
Michael Cramer, MEP (Greens/EFA)
Karoline Graswander-Hainz, MEP (S&D)

Further opportunities for a successful networking on the Eurovignette Directive will be explored , tackling the relevant EU policies for the Alps and considering the coordination at regional level with iMONITRAF! and at macro regional level with the EUSALP strategy. As one major objective, the discussion should go beyond current proposals and also consider the potential of innovative technologies and a stronger stakeholder involvement.

Buffet dinner will be served after the roundtable discussion.
