EU-China joint conference focuses on the future of urban development

President of the Committee of the Regions (CoR), Mercedes Bresso, will speak at a conference in Brussels on 3 May which is being held as part of the joint efforts by the European Union and China to respond to the challenges of urbanisation.

The conference, entitled "EU-China Urbanisation Partnership" is in cooperation with the Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), and is being organised by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Friends of Europe and the Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the European Union. "

The event is part of a wider EU-China partnership on urbanisation that was set-up earlier this year which aims to promote cooperation and offer an opportunity to discuss ways to drive forward sustainable urban development. The high profile event will focus on furthering EU-Chinese efforts to build better cities as a response to the shared challenges in adapting to the “urban century”. It will be an opportunity to review sustainable urban planning and debate the key infrastructure challenges facing modern cities.

The President of the CoR, Mercedes Bresso, will join a number of speakers including Li Keqiang, Vice Premier of the People’s Republic of China, Staffan Nilsson, the President of the EESC and Günther Oettinger, the European Commissioner for Energy and CoR Member Ilmar Reepalu (PES/SE), Mayor of Malmö.
