Hermann KUHN
The Committee of the Regions (CoR) is drafting an own-initiative opinion related to the ongoing implementation process of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (Directive 2008/56/EC and Report of the European Commission COM(2014) 97).

Under the directive, Member States are to take steps to ensure the health of their seas by 2020, including the development of a detailed action plan. According to the European Commission's first report on the Marine Directive's implementation, the EU's seas can scarcely be described as being in good condition and considerable efforts will have to be made to reach the 2020 target. An increasingly polluted marine environment has a direct impact on people living in coastal regions and also on important economic sectors.

The rapporteur of the opinion, Mr Hermann KUHN (DE/PES), Member of the Bremen City Parliament, together with his expert, Mr Till MARKUS, would be happy to meet with representatives of local and regional associations and other stakeholders for a consultation and an exchange of views on the relevant topic of this opinion.

The consultation will take place on:

Wednesday 14 January 2015 between 11.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m.

in the Committee of the Regions building
(Rue Belliard 99-101, B-1040 Brussels)
