Resource-efficient Europe: The contribution of regions and cities

02/09/2013   | Europe 2020 - National Art Gallery, Vilnius, Lithuania

On 2 and 3 September 2013, the Committee of the Regions held a conference on local approaches to resource efficiency in Vilnius, Lithuania, with the support of the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU. The event combined a meeting of the CoR's Commission on Environment, Climate Change and Energy (ENVE) and a meeting of the CoR Bureau all taking place in Vilnius.

The conference focused on:

  • Resource efficient Europe: policy challenges for regional and local authorities;
  • Local perspectives for a sustainable energy sector – Europe 2020 and beyond.

The event was part of the series of conferences organised by the Committee of the Regions on the Europe 2020 Flagship Initiatives and consisted of a two-day conference and an exhibition of good practices in cities and regions on the theme of resource-efficiency and sustainable energy.

In spring 2014, the series of Europe 2020 events will culminate in the 6th European Summit of Regions and Cities including a mid-term assessment of the Europe 2020 strategy from the Committee's perspective.

The conference participants were representatives from regional and local authorities, EU institutions, from private and financial institutions and representatives of the civil society.
