BACKGROUND - The MFF Regulation stipulates that by the end of 2016 at the latest, the Commission shall present a review of the functioning of the MFF, taking full account of the economic situation at that time as well as the latest macroeconomic projections. If appropriate, this mid-term review shall be accompanied by a legislative proposal for the revision of the MFF Regulation.

The CoR opinion should therefore provide a timely input to the discussions at EU level ahead of the proposal of the Commission and aim to strengthen the territorial dimension in the MFF review/revision.
