On 26 September 2016, the European Confederation of Local Intermediate Authorities organizes the Conference-debate "Financing investments in tourism industry to increase competitiveness and attractiveness of European territories".

With the participation of:

- Mrs Francina ARMENGOL I SOCIAS (ES/PES), President of the NAT commission of the CoR
- Mr Hanspeter WAGNER (AT/EPP), CoR member and Rapporteur for opinion on "Tourism as a driving force for regional cooperation across the UE"

Tourism is one of the key drivers of regional development, local and regional authorities being all interested to stimulate growth and competitiveness by developing their competences and expertise in this sector.

For a successful tourism development, as providers of public services and creators or facilitators of an active economic community, local authorities have to invest in the modernization of infrastructure and create new facilities, adapted to the new conditions of living.
Encouraging mobility by facilitating access to the various tourist sites is the key for promoting the local tourism offer. The spatial mobility generates also a dynamic of openness and integrates also the areas around the centre of touristic interest.

Nowadays, tourism without high level of services available near the destination or digital infrastructure cannot be imagined either.

Local and regional authorities are important actors in highlighting the attractiveness of their territories and creating the conditions for a sustainable local tourism development. Promoting the specificities and the added value of their regions in order to attract tourists involve an expertise that is not always a granted skill at local level.
Learning from each other and find the suitable solutions for our territories as sustainable tourism destinations is the purpose of our conference.
