At the invitation of the Mayor of Malaga, Mr De la Torre Prados, the seventh meeting of the ARLEM Commission for Economic, Social and Territorial Affairs (ECOTER) took place in Malaga, Spain, on 20 October 2014, from 9.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m., at the Malaga Trade Fair and Congress Centre.

On the agenda of the meeting was a discussion of the ECOTER draft report on the role of local and regional authorities in the management of migration in the Mediterranean, which was be presented by the rapporteur, Mr Antonio Costa (PES/PT), Mayor of Lisbon.

During the meeting, we also reviewed the recommendations of the 2013 ECOTER report on a cohesion strategy for the Mediterranean and discuss political avenues to be explored to encourage their implementation.

This was followed by a general debate on the ECOTER Commission's contribution to the 2014 ARLEM annual report and the preparation of the 2015 ECOTER work programme.
