30 years in the EU: the impact of the European Regional policy in the Region of Murcia

14/11/2016 14/11/2016 09.30-19.00| Salón de Actos del Palacio de San Esteban
In 2016 we celebrate 30 years since Spain and Portugal joined the EU. This is thus a good time to celebrate the impact of Spain’s integration in the EU and, in particular, the impact in the Region of Murcia notably through the Regional Policy. We must celebrate the transformation and modernisation accomplished with EU financing and the leverage effect on investment, all with an effective use of European funds.
We are convinced that communicating effectively this policy we communicate much better what the EU is about. Regional Policy is one of the most successful EU policies and we must explain its key achievements and how it works in the framework of decentralised and multilevel governance management. The event will include two parts:
1) Morning - Conference with political speeches about the 30 years, including information on different funds in the past and present programming periods,
2) Afternoon - Youth Dialogue about Regional Policy with students, youth asociations and young profesionals. They will present conclusions of previous debates organized in collaboration with the Directorate General for EU Affairs/Europe Direct.

This event is a 'Citizens Dialogue', jointly supported by the Committee of the Regions and the European Commission. It will be the last of the activities organised by the Region of Murcia to celebrate the 30 anniversary during the year.

Speakers will include Pedro Antonio Sanchez, President of the Region of Murcia and Cor Member, Corina Cretu, EU Commissioner for Regional Policy, and Rosa María Balas, Member of the Committee of the Regions.
