Stakeholder consultation by the Rapporteur Ján ORAVEC (SK/EPP - EDUC)

28/04/2011   Committee of the Regions, rue Belliard 99-101, B-1040 Brussels, Room JDE 70

The Committee of the Regions is drafting an opinion on the Communication from the Commission "The European eGovernment Action Plan 2011-2015" COM(2010) 743 final.

The availability of innovative technologies such as social networks has increased the expectations of citizens in terms of responsiveness when accessing all kinds of services on line. However, cross-border eGovernment services are few and, even where eGovernment services are offered, the majority of EU citizens are reluctant to use them. There is clearly a need to move towards a more open model of design, production and delivery of online services, taking advantage of the possibility offered by collaboration between citizens, entrepreneurs and civil society. The combination of new technologies, open specifications, innovative architectures and the availability of public sector information can deliver greater value to citizens with fewer resources.

The priorities of this plan – cross-border services, user empowerment, re-use of public sector information, eParticipation, the online single market, green government and interoperability – are all areas in which the regions are stakeholders, providers and beneficiaries.

The Rapporteur on the opinion, Mr Ján Oravec (SK/EPP), Member of the EDUC Commission of the CoR and Mayor of the City of Štúrovo, is coming together with his expert to Brussels and would be happy to meet with representatives of the associations of local and regional authorities and other stakeholders for a consultation and exchange of views on her opinion.

The consultation will focus on the issues raised by the Rapporteur in the working document. With simultaneous interpretation being provided, you will be able to speak in French, Slovak, English while listening into English and Slovak.

The consultation will take place at the premises of the Committee of the Regions, rue Belliard 99-101, 1040 Brussels, room JDE 70 at 11:00 – 13:00.
